Septic Tank Services

At First Class Waste, we understand that a sceptic tank system that is correctly designed, located, constructed, and well maintained will function effectively and safely for years. If you have a septic tank on your property or at your business, and you are looking for a reliable company to provide you with septic tank services, we can help.

Septic Tank Repair and Maintenance

You should have your septic tank inspected at least once every two years, and it should be pumped out and cleaned regularly. Doing so will ensure that your septic tank will function as effectively as possible. When you are having your tank inspected or before you have it pumped out, you can ask the technician to measure the scum and sludge layer thickness, so that the rate at which the solids accumulate in the tank can be determined. This will give you a better idea of how often your septic tank should be pumped. Regular pumping and cleaning of your septic tank is the best preventative maintenance you can do.

Avoiding Chemical Contamination of Your Septic Tank

In order to avoid chemical contamination of your septic tank:

  • You should only use household drain solvents, cleaners, disinfectants, etc. moderately.
  • You should not discharge water softener wastewater into the septic tank, unless the system was designed for extra capacity. The extra water would decrease the capacity of your system and the extra salt would potentially lead to failure of the leaching bed. Water softener wastewater should be directed to a leaching pit instead.
  • You should not use garbage grinders because it causes a sludge accumulation increase in the septic tank by about 40%. At which point, the tank will have to be pumped manually.
  • You should not dispose of fuels, grease, paints, thinners, weed or insect killers, cigarette butts, condoms, paper towels, diapers, sanitary napkins, etc. into the septic tank system because it can only handle bio-degradable items.
  • You should not use commercial starters, bacterial feeds, or cleaners because bacteria occur in the septic tank
